We believe in the importance of commemorating Remembrance Day, and honoring veterans and military members in our community. Each year our students participate in Remembrance Day Contests. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #9 awards students in the following categories:
Primary Classes: Colouring/Poster Contest (one winner per class)
Elementary Classes: Poster & Poem Contests (one winner per contest per class)
Intermediate Classes: Poster, Poem, & Essay Contests (one poster winner per class, one essay winner per class for grades 7 & 8, one poem winner overall)
Gary Churchill Memorial Award
This award is presented to the grade 9 student who demonstrates outstanding knowledge through essay on the topic "November 11th, Day of Remembrance."
Bullfrogs and Butterflies Award in Memory of Vida Laundry
This award is presented to a grade 3 student who exudes positivity on a daily basis.
Jessica Janes Memorial Award
This award is presented to an elementary student who is inclusive and encouraging towards others, shows acceptance of all persons, provides positive words of encouragement, and shows kindness to all.
Eleana Singleton Award - Musician of the Year
This award is presented to an elementary and an intermediate student who demonstrate a passion and skill in music.
Gerard Drover Music Scholarship
This award is presented to a student who demonstrates a passion and love of music.
Excellence in Fine Arts and Academics - Presented by Robert and Bernice Lundrigan
This award is presented to a student who demonstrates excellence in both fine arts and academics.
Journalistic - Creative Writing Award - Presented by Pam Parsons
This award is presented to a student who demonstrates a passion and skill in creative writing.
Michael C. Snelgrove Memorial Award
This award is presented to two grade 9 students, male and female, who demonstrate excellence in both athletics and academics.
Cecil Smith Memorial Award
This award is presented to the most improved Grade 8 student exhibiting positive attitude and work ethic.
Lloyd McCarthy Memorial Award
This award is presented to the most improved Grade 9 student exhibiting positive attitude and work ethic.
WWII Merchant Seaman Gordon Barrett and Stella Barrett of Back Cove, Spaniards Bay Memorial Award
This award is presented to a Grade 9 student who consistently demonstrates outstanding effort and hard work, both in academic studies and in building positive relationships with peers and teachers.
Cpl Matthew Brazil Memorial Award
This award is presented to a grade 9 student who reflects the spirit of Matthew Brazil by showcasing remarkable resilience, particularly in overcoming challenges related to learning or personal development, inspired by his journey of learning to read after returning from war.
Act of Kindness Award in Memory of Justin Morgan and Craig Carroll - Presented by Jase’s Roofing and Renovations
This award is presented to a student who exhibits genuine kindness to all.
Tiffany Brazil Memorial Award
This award is presented to a student who is a friend to all, helpful to others, and welcomes everyone into our school.
Emerging Leader Award
This award is presented to a grade 7, 8, and 9 student who consistently demonstrates leadership potential within our school. These students are recognized for their initiative, positive influence on peers, and willingness to take on responsibility, whether in the classroom, in extracurricular activities, or simply by setting a remarkable example for others. They embody the qualities of a future leader, showing kindness, integrity, and a commitment to making our school a better place.
Trevor Smith Volunteer of the Year Scholarship - Presented by The Chosen Few #153 Orange Lodge Tilton
This award is presented to a grade 9 student who excels in the following qualities: volunteering, giving back, and caring not for financial or any other gains, but to help build a world that will be a better place because of their actions.
(This award is selected by a committee of members from the Loyal Orange Lodge Tilton through an application process, including an essay about the applicant’s volunteer work and a letter from each organization or community group that the applicant is involved in)
Harold Gosse Memorial Award - Presented by the Town of Spaniard’s Bay
This award is presented to the student in the graduating class who, through behaviour and attitude, has demonstrated consistently the attributes and characteristics of an outstanding citizen of Holy Redeemer.
